I'm digging another trench that runs due south from the chicken coop and then branches west. Most of this has turned out to be very hard clay at the 50 foot mark. It's probably going to be done this coming week.
I watered four rows of cactus starting at the south end. Some pads have been lost due to predation by rats or rabbits. I still plan to plant barley at the southeast end to provide fodder for them.
Oats and barley and wheat are maturing. The barley will be ready first.
Adding chicken manure to the watermelons in the outside patch seems to have stimulated the plants. Cantaloupes are definitely growing now.
I was stung by a bee a few days ago digging the trench. I think it was a ground bee whose nest I disturbed. I scraped off the stinger and it wasn't that bad.
Mrs. Turkey is now laying an egg every two days, down from three.
Watering is constant. For next season I have to have drip systems in place. Otherwise I can't keep up the pace to keep everything watered.
