In the quest for firewood, the mesquite that got cut down has to be cut up some more. The chipper can chop dry mesquite wood quite well, but only under one inch in diameter. This means pulling branches out of the piles and cutting off the large pieces and then positioning the slender branches for chipping by a pathway the chipper will use. 

After the chipping, the chips will be raked into conical piles, which reduces wind scatter.
