I had the pleasure of having Jim Verner visit my cactus orchard. He gave me valuable advice on natural nitrogen release by using soy pellets mixed with gypsum and then soaking it in. He discussed the importance of not letting potassium crowd out calcium in the soil through the use of commercial fertilizer mixes.
He also clued me in on mixing urea with calcium chloride in the winter to enhance root ciliae when the plant is dormant.
