Ferocious storm this morning, the tornado of yesterday afternoon was just a foreshadowing. We must have gotten four inches of rain in an hour. The water level in the backyard was very close to overrunning the foundation and coming in the house.
There are still two inches of standing water in the backyard and elsewhere on the property. Photos I took this morning show exactly where the low spots and high spots are as far as water is concerned. The soil is still wet and gooey and very difficult to work with. When it dries out a little, it means I can now easily dig trenches and remove other mesquites that have popped up since the last rain.
The effect on the cactus is unknown at this time, the present danger being that the plants will rot. Most were underwater. We shall have to see.
