Paola Isabel Angulo-Bejarano, Ph.D.

I am a Biochemical Engineer who graduated from the Autonomous University of Sinaloa in 2004. In 2013 I obtained my PhD degree in Plant Biotechnology from the Direct Doctorate Program at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute (CINVESTAV-Irapuato). During this time I specialized in recalcitrant plants such as Opuntia spp. After this, I had a postdoctoral position for two years at the Institute of Ecology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico from 2014-2016. During this period I worked on plant transcriptomics in plants submitted to metal and metalloid stress using heterologous microarrays. 

I also participated by teaching some classes in the graduate course in biological sciences at UNAM. Since August 2016, I am a full-time professor in the Department of Bioengineering where I teach undergraduate students of Biotechnology Engineering, Agricultural Engineering and Food Industry Engineering. I belong to SNI level 1 and I am part of the NutriOmics and Emerging Technologies Research group of the EIC. I have recently trained students in co-direction for the Master's Degree in Biotechnology at our institution. 

I have also participated in tutoring committees both local and of other institutions. To date, I have published 8 scientific articles, 5 book chapters and 4 scientific reviews, all in prestigious international journals and publishers, most of them indexed in JCR. In addition, I have presented my results in national and international conferences. I am very passionate about scientific research, especially the one related to biotechnological applications in plants, such as tissue culture, genetic transformation, transcriptomics as well as phytochemical analysis in medicinal and nutraceutical plants. I love teaching and getting my students interested in the scientific and technological development of our country in the area of ¿¿biotechnology.
